Billie Holiday, born Eleanora Fagan (April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959), was an American jazz musician and singer - songwriter. Her unique diction, inimitable phrasing and acute dramatic intensity made her the outstanding jazz singer of her day. Lady Day, as she was nicknamed by her friend and music partner Lester Young, had a seminal influence on jazz and blues music and singing.
